What I know is true.
Let us share what we know about aging, serious illness and the end stage of life. Share your own experience — anytime and anywhere. You don’t need a degree, you do not need a certification - you are enough. You are human.
Frank Ostaseski has encouraged me throughout his years of mentoring, to get to know this end stage of life simply by spending time with individuals who are living it. Visit a neighbor or friend. I encourage you to learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. There is nothing to fix. Show up. You will make a difference.
We are in this together..
Above my desk in my office, I have hung a map of the world. When I have lost perspective, glancing up at that map is a gentle reminder, that we all, human beings, are in this life together. And at any given time and at the same time, may be experiencing a multitude of emotions as we navigate, unknowingly, stages of life together.
It is all about life….
Philosophy
“It is all about life.”
We all age, and we all die. We have known someone who is aging, and (or at least heard of) someone who has died.
As human beings we have a lot of experience. However, we tend to avoid sharing the details of this stage of life.
Details are helpful.
Throughout our lives, all other stages of life, we eagerly share with each other our opinions, our wishes, our decisions, our experiences - the best place to buy anything, or the restaurant to avoid - good, bad, helpful, sad, happy, and all the rest.
All of our sharing helps each other to navigate a new situation, and another stage of life. We get the chance to flounder, think it over, and arrive at the best decision for us.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be not so alone at a time that can be so lonely?
We all want to be seen, known, and heard at all stages of life.
